Tires are what keep your vehicle rolling, and knowing when it’s time to change them can mean the difference between easy riding, or a blowout on the highway.
At Avondale Nissan, we know how important your vehicle is to your everyday life, and keeping an eye on your tires can help to ensure you’re always on time for work, or picking up the kids from practice. While we know that there is no universal life span for a set of tires, there are some simple tricks that you can do at home to check if yours need to be replaced. If you still have questions after checking out your tires, we recommend talking to an expert who will be able to tell you exactly what’s going on. Lucky for you, we happen to have an entire service department full of Nissan technicians that are always more than happy to help you out with any of your tire needs.

How Do I Know My Tires Need To Be Changed?
The Penny Test
One of the most well-known ways of checking how much tread is left on your tires is to try the penny test. All you need is a penny and fairly good eyesight. Simply place the penny with Abe’s head facing down into the grooves on your tires. If any part of his head is covered by the tire, you’re good to go. When Abe’s head is completely visible, it’s time to get a new set of tires.
Tread Wear Indicator
If you don’t happen to have a penny handy, there’s another simple way of checking how much tread is left on your tires. Most tires have a treadwear-indicator bar that has been built in. You can find these bars by looking at the bottom of the tread grooves, and they are placed all over the tire. When the bars are clearly flush with the adjacent ribs, your tire has at most 2/32″ of tread remaining, and it’s time to replace them.
If you’d feel more comfortable having a trained professional look at your tires for you, put your trust in the certified technicians here at Avondale Nissan. Our technicians have years upon years of experience working with tires and know exactly when it’s time to change them. If you bring your Nissan in to have the tires checked and they pass the test, we will never try to upsell you on buying tires that you do not need. If your Nissan does need new tires, you can rest assured that we use the same tires that Nissan uses when your vehicle was manufactured. These tires have been specifically tested for your Nissan vehicle, and will provide you with the exceptional performance you’ve come to know and love.
