Trick-or-Treating Safety Phoenix AZ
Continuing our trek through all things fall-related at Avondale Nissan, we’re now ready to take on our favorite entry in the entire autumn canon: Halloween! Regardless of your age, All Hallow’s Eve is among the most fun a person can have during the year, and we at Avondale are no different. So, before you make your plans for Halloween with your kids, we’ve got five tips for trick-or-treating safety…what are you supposed to be, boys and girls?!
Tip #1: Map your route beforehand. Many trick-or-treating groups will pick a specific neighborhood to trick-or-treat in, whether its near their house, by their school, or near friends or family members. Regardless, it’s best to pick a route beforehand to map out where you’ll park, which streets you’ll choose, and how to best avoid getting lost.
Tip #2: Dress for least resistance. There are three common mistakes we make when dressing our kids to trick-or-treat: we put them in uncomfortable shoes, in a mask, with a costume that is far too long. When we’re on our feet for a long time, and frequently in the dark, these become troublesome conditions for even the hardiest child.
Tip #3: Make sure you can be seen. When we’re getting our kids ready for trick-or-treating, oftentimes the excitement of the evening will take a front seat to safety. Make certain that there is some reflective clothing as part of your child’s costume, and have a flashlight along to light the path during your candy search.
Tip #4: Have safe props. This is not a lie: when I was a kid, my brother took an actual kitchen knife as part of his costume, and I’m pretty sure I remember having a baseball bat or breadpin of my own. Do not do this! Get props that are, you know, props. If it can be used as a weapon, probably best to leave it at home.
Tip #5: Check the candy when you get home. Before your kids begin devouring the spoils of their efforts, first check to make sure that there is nothing in there that shouldn’t be. No candy that isn’t in its original wrapper, and no candy that looks like it’s been opened and rewrapped.
So, now to find some great costumes for your kids, right? And, if you’re in the area when trick-or-treating comes around, visit us at Avondale Nissan! We always enjoy seeing our neighborhood trick-or-treaters in action!
