Nissan “Self-Cleaning Car”
This is the sort of news that will sit eternally in my totally-real “Stop-the-Presses” folder, right next to the story of the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan episode and the fact that my parents attended–and enjoyed!–Book of Mormon. For the record, “Stop-the-Presses” news has to have a certain unbelievability about it, making a person immediately verify its veracity. And yes, this is just such a tidbit. That is because, according to various news sources, we at Avondale Nissan have received word that Nissan has created the world’s first “self-cleaning car.” Let that sink in.
Apart from having the unexpected result of rendering bikinis, suds-buckets and supermarket parking lots totally obsolete, this has wasted no time sending ripples throughout the automotive industry. So, to sift through the details, we will answer the obvious questions, in order from most-to-least sarcastic tones of voice.
That’s so fake. Right? Nope, totally real. Unlike the Back to the Future hoverboard hoax, which we still aren’t ready to talk about.
Ok. Then how does it work? Why are you asking me? I’m just a writer! But, according to a Nissan spokesman, the new paint contains a dirt-repellent coating that contains chemicals that create a protective layer between the paint and outward environmental factors. These chemicals repel water and road spray, and don’t allow them to set once they contact the coating. It’s like magic, except that it’s real. Like magic.
Will we ever be able to get it for ourselves? It is currently in testing in Great Britain on their Nissan Note model, and is expected to be an option on future models for £450, which translates to about $750. Small price to pay, we say, to be perma-fresh.
Can we get this for clothes? No. But you could stop eating at your desk every day. Problem solved.
As for when we can expect to see this technology stateside–and at Avondale Nissan–we will certainly keep you posted. In the meantime, for all your Nissan sales and service needs in the Phoenix area, our staff is standing by to assist you today. Stay clean out there!
