For a long time, the thought was that the 2017 Nissan Armada would be built on the new Titan, just as the previous edition had been. From the outside looking in, it all made sense. The new Titan is expected to be exceedingly popular, and so it would stand to reason that drivers would respond to a large, body-on-frame SUV built using the Titan’s chassis.
However, something we hadn’t considered was the overseas popularity of the Nissan Patrol, which is shown at right. Meanwhile, the Patrol — stay with us here — is built on the the chassis of the popular Infiniti QX80, which has always been a favorite with the American luxury set. So, if rumors are to be believed, there’s a chance that Nissan might hope to sway American audiences with the Nissan Patrol rebadged as a 2017 Nissan Armada.

So is it worth it? Judging by the standard 5.6L V8 that generates 400 hp, and the strong likelihood that the Titan’s XD could make an appearance in this model as well, we’d argue that it is. The Patrol has been a favorite overseas for years, and the Armada name likely isn’t going anywhere. It also would give Nissan time to enjoy a few years in the sun with the new Titan and Titan XD before introducing an SUV based on its design, likely in 2018 or 2019. You know, if we can wait that long.
We’ll keep you posted with further details on the 2017 Nissan Armada as it becomes available, but we’re pretty confident that what we’ve posted here will come to pass. Keep coming back to our blog for information, and come see us soon at Avondale Nissan!
