We'll Miss You, Old Friend: The 2015 Nissan Xterra Takes its Curtain Call

2015 Nissan Xterra Phoenix AZ

At a dealership like Avondale Nissan, we sometimes get a little attached to some of our more unique vehicles. At the same time, the winds can change in the auto industry in a flash, and sometimes our favorite models are a casualty of these changes. So it is with a heavy heart that we announce that, if rumors are correct, this will be the last year of production for the Nissan Xterra, our iconic body-on-frame, off-road SUV. So, before we say goodbye, let’s take a minute to appreciate the 2015 Nissan Xterra, shall we?

First, we should mention what a terrific run it’s had. It was released in 1999 (and, all told, I personally bought a red one before going to college in 2001…loved that vehicle), and racked up several high-profile acknowledgements during its production run. In 2000, it received the North American Truck of the Year and Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year, and later was named 4Wheeler Magazine’s SUV of the Year. Its owners remain some of the most loyal around, and yes, I traded mine off in 2006…for a new one.
To answer what has made it so beloved for owners, we can answer that in one word: versatility. The Xterra is powerful enough to climb steep inclines or ford rivers, yet maintains a fuel economy that you might not expect from such a rough-and-tumble vehicle. Factor in awesome features such as the roof storage compartment capable of holding 150 pounds of wet and messy gear, rear-side bumper steps for easy access, the handy Utili-Track Cargo Channel System to hold down items that might roll around, and an Easy Clean cargo area that can simply be wiped down after a day enjoying the outdoors.
Getting its power from a 4.0L V6 engine rated for a potent 261 horsepower, the 2015 Xterra is the rare vehicle that is truly engineered for life off the road. Unfortunately for trail purists out there, the move toward more crossover-minded models has made the Xterra a casualty of the culture, and this will likely be the last year we see new models of it at Avondale Nissan.
Fortunately, there’s still time to enjoy it for yourself. To learn the many ways that the 2015 Nissan Xterra is changing the game for weekend warriors in the Phoenix area, and to see our many great financing and pricing options, visit Avondale Nissan today!
