In the last few years, we’ve certainly seen the EV segment, and the Nissan LEAF in particular, become part of the public consciousness. Now back for the new model year, the 2016 Nissan LEAF has never been better, and it’s now available at Avondale Nissan. So, before you experience this model for yourself at our Phoenix-area dealership, what is there to know?
It may be hard to remember now, but it wasn’t really that long ago that the idea of a viable EV was met with snickers and ridicule. “Where will you charge it?” the skeptics asked. Enter the Nissan LEAF, and the EV game was changed. Well, now the game changes even further. The 2016 Nissan LEAF now offers an available 30 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with an 80 kW AC synchronous electric motor, delivering the longest range ever for LEAF drivers, up to 107 miles.

Much of the skepticism of EVs, if you’ll remember, had to do with the uncertainty that you’d ever find a place to charge it. In the Phoenix area alone, however, there are nearly 150 charging stations available at any given time, with more being added all the time. Meanwhile, with the PlugShare app making it easy to find a charging station, the hassle we once worried about is gone forever.
Sure, the 107-mile range gets the most virtual ink, but it takes some work to come to that number. The new LEAF offers a more aerodynamic design than ever before, which permits wind resistance to be kept to a minimum and maximizes airflow around the outerbody. The LEAF also boasts regenerative brakes and available LED low-beam headlights, which use roughly half the energy of your traditional headlight. As a result, LEAF drivers get the most out of every charge.

If you remember the first-generation LEAF from a few years back, the technology was truly first-generation as well. In the all-new 2016 Nissan LEAF, however, the ante has been clearly upped. The LEAF now offers the Nissan Navigation System, pairing the NissanConnect EV Information System to inform drivers of all the pertinent performance data, distance to charging stations, and much more, all on an in-car touchscreen. Those looking for SiriusXM radio are in luck as well, as this has been added to the media offerings.
For those who have been waiting for the Nissan LEAF to grow up, the 2016 model conquers this task. To learn more or to schedule your test drive, visit us at Avondale Nissan today!
