2016 Nissan Maxima Sneak Peak

Now that the Super Bowl and the Phoenix Open are officially on the way out of town, we can look forward to life returning to normal in the areas immediately surrounding Avondale Nissan. It was a fun weekend, to be sure, with Nissan making its presence known both on the city streets with models such at the 2015 Murano, and on the television broadcast with the highly-touted #WithDad advertising campaign. On a more newsworthy level, however, there was a particularly exciting moment during Nissan’s “Cats in the Cradle” commercial that eagle-eyed viewers caught right away: a brief cameo from the 2016 Nissan Maxima.

That’s right, folks. Nissan slipped its “four-door sports car” into one of its commercials right under our noses. The commercial, which we’ve embedded below, gives us a glimpse of a family whose connections are tested by the demands of the father’s job, which involves driving a Nissan NISMO open-wheel car extremely fast. To the sounds of Harry Chapin’s “Cats in the Cradle,” we see that, although the two don’t spend a much time together, they share a lot in common, including piercing blue eyes and a love for racing.

Of course, much of the press surrounding this commercial centers on the final seconds of the spot, where the father and son are reunited when it’s time to be picked up–spoiler alert!–in a sparkling 2016 Nissan Maxima! With features such as the floating roofline, V-Motion grille and muscular exterior lines shared with the 2015 Nissan Murano, the Maxima looks like the so-called “sports sedan concept” we examined a few months ago, although Nissan isn’t expected to release many details until the 2015 New York Auto Show this coming April.
