The countdown is winding down for the release of the 2016 Nissan Titan at Avondale Nissan, the redesigned full-size pickup that has all of us hot and bothered waiting for it to arrive. The design is new, the features are new, man, even this amount of unprecedented hype is new. But now, just weeks ahead of its arrival, we’ve finally gotten a rundown on its powertrain options. So, without further ado, the 2016 Nissan Titan powertrain lineup, coming soon to a Nissan dealer near you. (Hint: that’s us.)
This is the one that has gotten the most virtual ink, and rightfully so. (And yes, we broke the news a few months ago.) The Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is engineered to produce 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque, as well as a towing capacity of approximately 12,000 pounds when properly equipped. As was previously reported, this powertrain will only be offered on the all-new Titan XD, which we’ll be seeing at Avondale Nissan in only a few short weeks.
Perhaps the most exciting facet of the 2016 Nissan Titan’s powertrains — in addition to its gaudy towing capabilities, which you can access above — is the fact that it’s all designed and constructed in America. The design comes from Cummins in Indiana, while the construction occurs at the Nissan plant in Tennessee. It’s been a long time coming, but a pickup that has long been known for espousing American ideals — power, versatility, durability — now has the construction pedigree to match.
As you might have noticed, the 5.6 liters that are displaced in this powertrain is identical to what is displaced in the 2015 Titan. However, numbers can be misleading. While the 2015’s engine produced a still-admirable 317 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque, the new Endurance V8 has been tuned to perform; try on 390 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque for size. The Endurance V8 also pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission, and will be smoother than ever before due to its downshift rev matching.

Lovers of the Nissan Juke will also enjoy the incorporation of the Direct Injection Gas (DIG) technology, improving fuel economy and throttle performance by stabilizing combustion and making the injection control more precise. We’re still waiting on towing numbers for the Endurance V8, but we’ll pass those along as we receive them ahead of this model’s spring release.
When the model was announced, it was reported that a V6 will be an option as well. We still believe this to be true, although we haven’t heard the specifics on it yet. We’re expecting that the V6 will be announced around the time when the gas-powered V8 is released, later this spring.
The 2016 Nissan Titan XD is set to arrive in just a few weeks, while the gas-powered options will soon follow. To learn more or to schedule your test drive, visit Avondale Nissan today!
