For automotive enthusiasts, no three letter inspire the same sort of excitement as “GT-R.” Originally part of Nissan’s iconic “Skyline” performance series, the GT-R has proven to be an entirely different type of sports car in the last decade, and it’s now back for 2017. So, what should we expect from the 2017 Nissan GT-R when its release date arrives in the Phoenix area?

It’s rare that a sportscar can bring out such enthusiasm with just a mention of its name, but the Nissan GT-R is just that kind of car. With its athletic profile, legendary performance and intuitive controls, it makes sense that Phoenix-area drivers would enjoy the opportunity to get behind the wheel of such an iconic vehicle. But what exactly are they getting themselves into?

What’s New on the 2017 Nissan GT-R?

If there’s been any negative report on the GT-R models of old, it’s that they sometimes seem too rigid from the cockpit. After all, you’d expect such a famed sportscar to be comfortable on the road, correct? That has been the chief mission for the Nissan design crew, and they’ve met this directive head on.

The first order of business, was getting the performance of the GT-R more inline with its body style. Specifically, this meant roping the wind, and the GT-R now offers redesigned front fascia that are better at minimizing wind resistance. Next up was reducing drag on the body itself, which was accomplished by redesigning the C-pillar to be less of a hindrance where wind was concerned. Finally, Nissan set out to give the driver a better overall performance experience, and this was accomplished by way of a more ergonomic, driver-centric dashboard design, highlighted by the all-new multi-function “display-commander” console, which allows the pilot to manipulate his or her display controls to their specific liking.
