4 Safety Tips for Driving Through Construction Zones

With road construction already ramping up as we gear toward the summer months, you’ll also begin to see more car accidents as a result. The frequent changes in traffic flow, erratic stopping and unforeseen circumstances can lead to pileups in minutes, but do they have to? We’re here with a few safety tips for driving through construction zones; put them to good use this spring and summer!

4 Safety Tips for Driving Through Construction Zones

Keep Your Wits About You

As we mentioned above, driving through a construction zone can lead to a host of challenges that you won’t see anywhere else. You’ll be forced to change lanes without warning. You might be stopped for minutes on end. You could have to ride in stop-and-go traffic all throughout Phoenix. That’s why it’s important to keep your distractions to a minimum. Keep your phone off or away from you, turn down the radio, and be prepared for anything.

Be Patient

We understand, this can be a real pain in the you-know-what. However, being frustrated — and potentially taking that frustration out on other drivers — won’t get you anywhere, literally. Traffic jams and construction delays, so do your best to remain composed and patient, and you’ll be getting back into the flow of traffic in no time.

Slow Down

This will likely be the most obvious of all the tips here, but because so many drivers willingly speed through construction zones, it begs mentioning. You’ll often see signs saying, “Give ‘Em A Brake,” showing construction workers on it. The reason? These men and women are quite literally risking their lives to fix our roads, so we owe it to them to avoid risky driving. Please, slow down when passing through construction zones.

Plan an Alternate Route

If everything we’ve said so far makes you less than excited about this whole construction thing, then let us suggest you simply take a different route. The Department of Transportation website often keeps updated information regarding which roads will be under construction, and you’ll have ample time to plan the course you will take. Hate construction? Problem solved.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that driving in a construction zone will be without its troublesome moments, so perhaps a visit to the area’s Nissan leader is in order to clear your head. Come see us soon at Avondale Nissan!
