Push Play: The 5 Best Films for Racing Lovers

Although we could certainly be accused of being single-minded from an automotive standpoint at Avondale Nissan, we’ve also been known to be movie buffs in certain circles. Not surprisingly, many of our favorite movies are tied to our love of automobiles, particularly those that could be classified as so-called “race cars.” So which are the best of the bunch? We’ve identified five of the best films for racing enthusiasts, which can be found below. So, are there any that we’ve missed?

5 Best Films for Racing Lovers

The Fast and Furious Series

We’ll start with what is perhaps the most obvious inclusion on this list, solely because Nissan vehicles (as well as other supercars) appear so frequently in this series. In fact, the famed Nissan Skyline GT-R is the very first major vehicle to appear in the series. It’s later followed by such models as the Fairlady Z (known as the 370Z in America) and a 2012 GT-R.

Dust to Glory (2005)

This movie is so cool, we almost feel as though it needs no introduction. Not only does it star Steve McQueen and Mario Andretti, it also takes its theme from the Baja 1000, Mexico’s unbelievable off-road race. Factor in the many cool cars and trucks, and you’ll understand just what we love so much about it.

Racing Dreams (2009)

As you’re certainly aware, Nissan has its mitts all over the motorsports world, but we rarely think about where the process begins for an aspiring racer. This film answers that question, taking a look at the World Karting Association, one of the first steps for all racers. Make no mistake, it’s a deadly serious activity.

Senna (2009)

In keeping with the motorsports theme, this documentary tells the story of Ayrton Senna, a fabulously talented racer on the track and a legendary character off of it. This tells the story of his life and untimely death, from the people who knew him best. Put simply, probably the best automotive movie of all time.

Rush (2013)

If you love the motorsports world but are slow to warm to documentaries, then take a look at this film from Ron Howard. It tells the story of the 1976 Formula One season, during which famed racers Niki Lauda and James Hunt engaged in an at-times-turbulent rivalry. Come for the drama, stay for the epic racing scenes.
So, are there any films that you feel as though we’ve missed? If so, feel free to add them to the comments below, and feel free to visit us soon at Avondale Nissan!
