Now that 2015 is fully upon us–no more four-day workweeks, sigh–most of us have taken it upon ourselves to make some sort of New Years resolution list. Maybe you’re hoping to lose weight, be more courteous to your local grocer, or just make a concerted effort to watch Downton Abbey. These are all valid choices for a New Years resolution. However, have you made any auto-related New Years resolutions? Because you absolutely should. Here are five that we’re particularly fond of.
Do your part to fight drunken driving. Even though drunk driving is something that each of us is aware of of, we can still do more to raise awareness of this troublesome epidemic. If you’re a drinker, make certain to schedule arrangements to get a ride or to have a taxi. And, if you’re a parent, you know that kids will act irresponsibly from time to time; make it your mission to know the risks and responsibilities that come with driving.
Be a more defensive driver. When you’re driving, you always need to remind yourself that you not only have to be mindful of your habits, but of the habits of other drivers as well. It’s quite literally a two-way street. Don’t speed at night, pay attention to all factors such as weather and construction that might negatively affect safety, and practice proper following distances.
Pass on your safe driving habits to your kids. Monkey see, monkey do, right? In many ways, your kids will take on certain aspects of your personalities, whether it’s in your hobbies, habits or personal temperament. In much the same way, we’ll pass on our driving habits too, for better or worse. So, if you’re a true speed demon, you might well have a child who is one as well. Be a conscientious driver, however, and your child probably will be as well.
Take better care of your car. You might not typically be the type to take good care of your car, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Giving your car seasonal TLC will help make it more comfortable and attractive, while paying attention to the tires, belts and fluids will make your car run better as well.
So, ready to take on the new year with a renewed automotive fervor? We at Avondale Nissan hope to see you soon, and hope that these automotive New Years resolutions serve you well in 2015!
