There are few warm-weather activities quite as satisfying as taking your dog out to spend time with other like-minded pet-owners at a dog park. It gives your dog a great chance to socialize, lets it exercise, and makes great use of our many Phoenix-area open spaces. But which dog parks are best? Here’s a short list of our favorite dog parks in the Phoenix area, from your friends here at Avondale Nissan!
Best Dog Parks in Phoenix
PETSMART Dog Park at Washington Park — Phoenix
This regularly ranks among the area’s most popular dog parks, and with good reason. Not only does it provide many of the required attractions — watering stations, separate spots for big and small dogs, benches, “mutt mitt” dispensers — but it also gets to parlay its PETSMART connection into special dog-centric events on a pretty regular basis.
Echo Mountain at Grovers Basin — Phoenix
This is another large, fully fenced-in dog park, and is more scenic than many other parks. It offers separate areas for big and small dogs, while water and waste bags are provided. However, it should be noted that it doesn’t have as much shade as some other parks, and can get pretty warm during the hot afternoon hours.
Foothills Dog Park — Glendale
If you’re on the west side of the metro area, there are a few Glendale-based parks that might be more to your liking. It’s located next to the Foothills Library, and has two separate areas that rotate monthly. It also offers a special agility course on the east side of the park, letting your dog get some exercise in the sunshine.
Sahuaro Ranch Park — Glendale
Much like the Foothills park, the Sahuaro Ranch location also has agility equipment to let your dog stretch its legs. With separate small-dog areas, lots of benches and grass, and water fountains as well, this one gets high marks despite its modest size.
Hance Dog Park — Downtown Phoenix
This one is really unlike the others, mostly because it’s the first to take advantage of a downtown location. It features outstanding landscaping, and has regular events to help urban dog owners get the most out of their pet experience. If you’re downtown and looking for a place to take your pet, you can’t do better than Hance Park.
