We’re getting to one of our favorite times of year at Avondale Nissan, when we can eat all the turkey and mashed potatoes and cranberries and why are we doing this to ourselves? The average American eats 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving afternoon, and they usually don’t do anything to burn them off. However, at Avondale Nissan, we enjoy taking part in Turkey Trot races, and there are a few of them in the Phoenix area to consider.
If we’re looking for a race that is in close proximity to Avondale Nissan, then the 10th Annual Laveen Turkey Trot is certainly the way to go. It not only offers a 5k run/walk, but also a 1-mile fun run and Kids’ Dash, and because it’s kept a somewhat low profile over the years, it’s more family-friendly than some other races.
Now celebrating its 26th year of trotting, the Fountain Hills event offers some of the best terrain of any of the races on this list. There will be prize winners for both men and women, with each champ taking home the coveted Golden Turkey trophy. If this doesn’t get you excited, we don’t know what will.
Benefiting the Arizona Brainfood non-profit and Families Fighting Blindness charity, 100% of all proceeds of the Gilbert Turkey Trot are given to the causes that they serve. The races take place at SanTan Village, and entrants may choose between a 1-mile Fun Run or the standard 5k.
This one is a little different, but it’s what is different that makes it worthwhile. For those who’d like to do either a duathlon or a triathlon with friends or family, this event, held at the Southwest Valley YMCA in Goodyear, makes it possible. If teamwork is your thing, then this is precisely what you’re looking for.
