Since the summer travel season is unmistakably upon us in the Phoenix area, it’s time for us to take a little and consider our cars’ suspension. Even though many of us might be quick to dismiss this problem out of hand, it’s an extremely important system in your vehicle, and is crucial to the success of any vacation. So let’s take a brief look at your car’s suspension, shall we? If you’ve had any of these common suspension problems, pay us a visit at Avondale Nissan!
“Oily” shocks. Ideally, your shocks should be dry if they’re working properly. That’s why, if you look under your vehicle and notice that your shocks are oily or greasy, then you probably have a leak on your hands–or on your driveway, more specifically.
A rough ride. Perhaps the easiest way to diagnose failing suspension is by paying attention to something that’s impossible to ignore. Basically, if you feel every single bump and rut on the road, or if you experience jarring jolts over the slightest crack in the street, failing suspension is probably the culprit.
A sloppy ride. This is essentially the opposite of the rough ride from a moment ago. If it feels as though the body of your car is drifting, pulling or is just generally sloppy around curves, this means that your suspension isn’t capable of keeping the body of your car stable.
Your car lunges when you stop. If you’ve ever noticed that when you hit the brakes, your car feels like it simply wants to keep going, this might be a result of suspension that is faulty. You might feel like a lunge or dip at this time, and this needs immediate attention.
Give your car the “Bounce Test.” A quick and easy way to see if your suspension is going is by doing the following: when your car is in park, press down with your full weight on the front end of your car. Do it a few times, and then let go. Does it keep bouncing? If so, your suspension is probably the problem. Repeat the test on the rear, and then head to Avondale Nissan!
