Four Easy Ways to Extend the Life of your Tires

If we might be allowed a little bit of hyperbole, we believe that tires are the Rodney Dangerfield of the automotive world–they don’t get any respect. However, we at Avondale Nissan feel differently. Not only are we grateful for the safety that our tires provide, we also do our best to make sure that they maintain a long and healthy lifespan. (We’re still talking about tires here, right?) So, to ensure that this happens, we’ve got a quick checklist to help extend the life of your tires.

Check pressure frequently. If you’ve bought a new Nissan recently, you might have noticed that many models check your tire pressure for you. However, others might have to do this the old fashioned way, and it’s absolutely critical that they do this regularly. The optimal air pressure is usually found printed inside the driver’s side door jamb, and it should be followed closely. Don’t fill your tires after they’ve been rolling all day either; the friction can lead to inaccurate calculations.
Rotate tires frequently. One of the most common questions is, “How often is ‘frequently?’” With rotating tires, it’s roughly every 5,000 miles, or every time you get your oil changed. Rotating tires helps your tires wear more evenly and helps extend the life of your tires in many ways. When tires are set in different positions on your vehicle, they take on different challenges and weight loads, so rotating them frequently is important.
Check your alignment. When your alignment is off, this makes your tires work extra and wear abnormally, and it isn’t even their fault! This also may cause your tires to fail–note: that’s tire slang for popping–and this isn’t good for anyone. Luckily, we use laser precision to assess your alignment and get you rolling down the highway in the way that you should.
Check your tire balance. If there’s a silver lining to having off-balance tires, it’s that they’ll generally let you know that there’s an issue. There will be a pretty significant vibration, so you can at least know what’s wrong. Of course, then it needs fixing as well, and we have electronic spin balancing at our service department at Avondale Nissan to help with this issue.
Obviously, if you have any issues with your tires, these should be addressed immediately, and the problem might be indicative of something else entirely. So, if you’ve got issues you’d like fixed, visit us today at Avondale Nissan!
