Four Facts about your Auto Air Conditioning

In the deepest throes of an Arizona summer, it stands to reason that your vehicle’s air conditioning has become an area of concern. There’s a lot that many of our visitors at Avondale Nissan don’t know about air conditioning, and that can present a whole host of problems for those hoping to beat the heat. Here are a few important facts about auto air conditioning that you might not have considered, from your friends (and certified service pros) here at Avondale Nissan.

Regular Service is a Must. You’d be a little surprised how seldom people think about their A/C. However, after years of regular use — you know, like you’ll have here in Arizona — there are components that will need semi-frequent care. Annual service is recommended, and since leaks are common in vehicles of all vintages (such as refrigerant getting out of the pipes), it’s pretty important that you don’t let this get away from you to make sure that the system performs its best.
You Can Do your A/C System Favors to Make it More Effective. Let us guess: you just jump into your car and crank the A/C right away, right? Most of us do. However, this isn’t the best way to go about cooling your car. Instead, before you even turn on the A/C, put your windows down and set your system to recirculate the air. This will make the hot air leave your car as you begin to move, and your car will then recirculate cool air instead of hot air.
Um…Don’t Service your A/C Yourself. A surprising number of drivers actually do this themselves for whatever reason. Yeah, we can tell when this has happened, and yeah, it can be dangerous and sometimes illegal to do. Bringing your car to a certified service person not only makes sure that your system will be serviced according to industry and environmental standards, it also ensures that any fluids that are removed will be disposed of properly.
Using A/C is Less Expensive than you Think. You’ll often hear that “A/C is expensive” and it “uses too much gas,” this is only half true. The truth is, the alternative — rolling down your windows — also uses more gas, since it creates drag on your vehicle. Newer cars generally run their A/C systems efficiently, and running them regularly also keeps all of the components well lubricated.
If you’ve got any more questions regarding your air conditioning or simply wanted to have yours serviced, we encourage you to visit Avondale Nissan!
