Five Tips for Planning a Summer Cookout

At Avondale Nissan, we pride ourselves on being your one-stop resource for all things summer-related. Perhaps the most exciting part of the warmer months is involving all of your friends and neighbors in a yard party, and it’s something we know how to do quite well. Here are five tips for planning a summer cookout, courtesy of the Phoenix-area’s favorite Nissan dealership.

Five Tips for Planning a Summer Cookout

1) Craft an Actual Guest List

While this may seem like an obvious place to start, a staggering amount of party planners avoid this fundamental step. It helps know who is coming, of course, but it also allows you to know how many guests will be in attendance, which is crucial to know at the planning stage. We recommend creating a Facebook group, which is a great way to get information to your guests.

2) Don’t Try to Do Too Much

Even though it might be tempting to make all the decisions and undertake all of the planning, you’ll be pulling your hair out by the time guests start arriving. That’s why it’s a good idea to enlist a few trusted allies during the planning stage, which will keep you from taking on all of the cooking and organization on your own.

3) Draw Up a Game Plan

If you’ve thrown a party before, you’ve probably hit a point where those who are helping you are actually causing more confusion. That’s why you might want to draw a map of your property, which will better help you to plan where things will be laid out. Instead of having your helpers flying blind, they’ll have a map to go by.

4) Organize Your Planned Activities

You’ll certainly want to have your activities delineated beforehand, which is obviously half the battle. However, it isn’t enough to simply pick the activities you’ll be considering. Gather up the equipment and gear you’ll need for your intended games or activities, and keep it nearby so it’s easily accessible when it’s game time.

5) Make The Perfect Summer Playlist

The most important part of your planning probably won’t involve the music that you play, but it’s close. Your party should have songs that everyone will enjoy, and should reflect the festive summer mood that you’re trying to foster. Our suggestions? A good mix of familiar favorites, classic country, yacht rock, and old-school R&B. If you can get even one guest to muse, “Man, I’d totally forgotten about this song,” then you will have won.
