The Seedy Underbelly? Four Fun Uses for Pumpkins!

Four Fun Uses for Pumpkins

If you’ve been driving around with your eyes open–you do drive with your eyes open, don’t you?–you’ve probably begun to see pumpkins popping up on the landscape like a bunch of adorable, orange Starbucks franchises. And, if you’ve taking the next logical step, then you already know what comes next: you carve a face into said pumpkin (poorly), wait until it begins to lose its shape, and then you emphatically throw it into the street.

However, did you know that there are other uses for pumpkins beyond the carve-wilt-destroy trifecta? If not, then thank your lucky autumn gourds for Avondale Nissan, showing up on the scene with four surprising uses for pumpkins!

Roast the Seeds.

When I was a younger man–like, last year–I used to love these. All you have to do is oil a baking sheet, cover the seeds in the oil. and roast them for about 45 minutes at 300 degrees. At this point, you can go in several directions. You could put spices on them to make them spicy. You could put brown sugar on them to make them sweet. You could put salt on them to make them–duh–salty.

Feed Furry and Feathery Friends.

There’s a chance that you’ve left your jack-o-lanterns outside, and next time you looked at them, they had more chunks missing than the ones you haphazardly removed when you tried and failed to make the mask from Scream. Wanna know why? Because animals love ‘em! So, cut your pumpkin into pieces and place them in places naturally appealing to animals–shelter belts, meadows, etc.–and let Bambi do the rest. And those seeds you roasted earlier? Birds might like them even more than you do.

Make Pumpkin Serving Bowls.

Are you having a fall party? Use your pumpkins to make easy and festive serving bowls! Cut the pumpkin in half, and hollow out as much of the guts and flesh as you can. Then brush all of the interior edges and surfaces with a little oil and bake for a half hour at 350 degrees. Then, use the resulting bowl for punch, soup, or simply to hold bottled beverages at your party.

Use the Pumpkin Guts to Make Yourself Beautiful

Bear with us here. Pumpkin is high in zinc and several vitamins, all of which are very good for your skin. Make a facial mask using a splash of milk, three teaspoons brown sugar and five teaspoons pumpkin puree. Mix it all up, and apply it to your skin as a natural mask and exfoliant. Not only does Avondale Nissan specialize in beautiful cars, we also help make our customers beautiful as well!
So there are four uses for your pumpkins that you possibly hadn’t considered! We hope that you have a fun and festive fall, and that you’ll come see us soon at Avondale Nissan!
