$100 DIY: Get Your Car Ready For Fall

Get Your Car Ready For Fall

Okay, pop quiz. You’ve got a car, you want to make sure it’s ready for fall, and you’ve only got $100 to spare. What quick fixes can you do to make sure your car is ready for fall? Well, you’re in luck; Avondale Nissan has five DIY tips to get your car ready for fall, all on a budget of just $100. Ready? Let’s do it.

1) Check Your Tires, Spare Included (Cost = Under $10) — If you’re like us, you never think about your spare tire. That’s why it’s spare, right? However, you really should check your spare regularly, just to ensure that it’ll be ready in a pinch. Many gas stations have free air hoses, while a tire pressure gauge can usually be purchased for under $10. $90 remaining.
Get Your Car Ready for Fall2) Top Off Your Fluids (Cost = Approximately $20) — Totally essential, often overlooked. Three fluids that should always be maintained at proper levels are brake fluid (cheap), antifreeze (cheaper) and washer fluid (cheapest). Make sure that each is at the proper level to ensure that you’re ready for the sudden shift in weather that autumn often brings. $70 remaining.
3) Clean Your Battery Posts. (Cost= About $5) — Over time, corrosion and residue will build up on your battery posts, which will prevent optimal power from running to your starter and other electrical apparatuses. Taking an appropriate metal brush (under $5), clear the residue from the post, then reconnect it tightly. $65 remaining.
4) Change Your Wiper Blades. (Cost = About $30) — With our extreme heat, the rubber on our wiper blades will quickly dry and crack, rendering them totally ineffective. So, make sure that your wiper blades are working properly, and change them if they require it (under $30). $35 remaining.
5) Change Your Air Filter. (Cost = About $30) — A dirty air filter will diminish your vehicle’s fuel efficiency, affect the cleanliness of its emissions, and generally make your car perform at a lower level than it should. Ideally, an air filter (around $30) should be changed twice a year, so what better time than now?
So there you have it, Arizona! And with five dollars to spare! We hope that this helps prepare your vehicle for fall, and that you have a great one on top of that. And, if you’re looking for further vehicle maintenance, we encourage you to contact our service department at Avondale Nissan to schedule an appointment. Safe travels!
