Glow-in-the-Dark Nissan LEAF
You would be forgiven for thinking that, given the professional tone of our blog, we at Avondale Nissan generally work with our serious faces on. Today, however, isn’t one of those days. It’s auto show season, we’ve got many new models to look at, and it’s a beautiful day in the Phoenix area. Oh, and we just got a glow-in-the-dark Nissan LEAF. This is a real thing.
Now, before we show a video of this technology in action, let’s get down to brass tacks about what this actually is. The technology comes from a company called Starpath (cool name, right?), and it’s an organic, high-tech coating that goes over the existing LEAF paintjob. Now you’re thinking, it’s just a coating? That can’t be! But it can be. The coating absorbs energy from sunlight during the daylight hours and then, when it gets dark out, the vehicle is illuminated for up to 10 hours. The coating is expected to last for up to eight years, and it promises to inspire conversations about its awe-inspiring weirdness for long after that.
Just think about it. People will assume that they’re seeing a vehicle from Tron, or that they’re meeting an alien for the first time. Or, on a more practical level, could you imagine a thief or vandal looking at that car and not thinking, “You know, I really should stay away from that vehicle.” Every other vehicle on the road will see you also, meaning that you’ll be safer than you would be in a normal, non-glowing car.
Or so we can dream. The model shown here is apparently the first and only of its kind, so the days of driving a glowing car might be a few years away. In the meantime, we’ll just have to take solace in the fact that, more than any other vehicle, the 2015 Nissan LEAF is offering game-changing technology right here at Avondale Nissan. Test drive yours today!
