How to Avoid Traffic Tickets
We are now on the cusp of the most arduous portion of the travel season, prone to heavy traffic, road construction and a sharp spike in potential for accidents. A direct result of these factors is an increased law enforcement presence, and that will naturally result in a higher incidence of traffic tickets. But does it have to? Follow these simple tips to avoid traffic tickets, from your friends at Avondale Nissan!
Drive Within the Flow of Traffic. We’ll skip the “Don’t speed” tip, because we’ll assume that we all understand that not speeding produces no tickets. However, if you must speed, we recommend that you stay within 5 mph of the flow of traffic. Law enforcement is generally looking for drivers travelling noticeably faster than those around them; stay within the flow, and you should be fine.
Don’t be the Leader. Or the Follower. In many locations, the general speed of traffic is several mph higher than the posted limit, and everyone just understands this. Cops understand this too, and are just waiting to pick someone up. For this reason, if you are in a pack of cars that are all speeding, don’t be the first or last in the group, as they will be the most likely to get snagged by a radar gun. The middle of the pack is safest.
Avoid “Look at Me!” Driving. If you change lanes frequently, tailgate other drivers or generally drive aggressively, you are more likely to attract the attention of law enforcement. You may also draw the ire of truckers and other drivers, who can easily phone in your vehicle description and license plate number to alert cops to keep an eye out.
Watch for Cutouts and Approaches. Remember, cops take these roads all the time. They know the good spots to sit and wait for speeders just as surely as you have your favorite spot to sneak away to during lunch hour. So keep your eyes open for possible cutouts and hidden approaches, perfect spots to wait for the rogue speeder.
You are Never Truly Alone. Feel like the only car on the road, so may as well see what this baby can do? When you’re the only car on the road, not only could there definitely be law enforcement lurking, but they’ll often be more likely to ticket for going a small amount over the limit. After all, when you’re the only one out there–especially late at night, when other factors could be in play–why not make sure that all’s on the up-and-up?
We at Avondale Nissan would never recommend speeding, but we also understand the reality that it happens. We would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 4th of July and, of course, safe travels!
