Here, we’ll show how to address three of the most common vehicular blemishes: dents, scratches and paint chips.

How to Repair Dents and Scratches by Yourself

Fixing Paint Chips

Although this wasn’t always the case, small paint chips are now refreshingly easy to fix. While you formerly needed to go to a body shop to get a perfect paint match, drivers can now get a direct hit by using any number of products found at your local auto parts store. One of our favorites is called Dr. Colorchip, and it comes highly recommended by the Wall Street Journal. Even its super-simple instructions — “Paint! Dab! Remove” — are surprisingly accurate.

Fixing Dents

Depending on the size of the dent, there are two popular methods for DIY removal. First, for smaller dents, you simply use your typical household toilet plunger. Center the plunger over the little dent, firmly apply it to the surface of the vehicle, and just use the suction power of the plunger to pull out the dent. For larger dents, meanwhile, you’ll need to get a little creative, and by creative, we mean that you’ll need to use your knowledge of how heat and cold cause materials to expand and contract. Using a hair dryer and compressed air, you can actually affect the composite materials in your car’s body to force the dent to reassume it’s original design — that is, undented. Fixing Paint Scratches

Scratches can be a little tricky, especially if it’s a deeper groove. For scratches of all sizes, we recommend using Quixx Paint Scratch Remover. For larger scratches, it’s absolutely crucial to make sure that you’re following the directions to the letter, since it’s a more of an investment, both in effort and time.
