Is There a Way to Keep Your Car Clean When You Have Kids?

For every ten cars that leave our lot at Avondale Nissan, we would estimate that eight of those are purchased with the intention of carrying a family or children at some point. Of course, the rub is that, when they leave our dealership, they are impeccably clean. Once they become regular transports for children, well, this is likely to change. So how do you keep your car clean when you have kids? Here are five ideas from your Phoenix-area friends at Avondale Nissan!

Enlist Your Kids to Help in the Process. Kids are naturally inclined to be helpful, and especially enjoy being challenged by their parents. So give them tasks in a way that they understand. Okay, everyone carries one piece of trash to the garbage can! Everyone brings the books they brought with them! And so on and so forth. More kids equal more hands; they don’t have to only equal more mess.
Select a Designated Spot for “Stuff.” Whenever you go on a trip, kids will want to bring games and snack, while you’ll want to make sure you have kleenex, diapers, etc. But what if everything was in one convenient place? Get a tote bag or a large tupperware container, where you can keep everything in one easy-to-reach location.
Clean Up After Every Trip. We know–you just got home and you just want to get inside. However, if you give your car a quick cleaning with every trip, the items won’t accumulate, and you won’t all of a sudden find an old golf glove or a RedBox that you haven’t seen for weeks. As we all know, small messes cleaned up every time are much more manageable than a large mess at once.
Keep Cleaning Supplies in Your Car. Isn’t it true, that you never think about the cleaning supplies you don’t have until you need them? This is only more true when we’re talking about a mess that’s made while you’re driving, when a quick cleanup is necessary. So, keeping carpet cleaner, paper towels, a cleaning brush, a vacuum and a garbage can are necessary.
Place Rules on Snacks. We understand that sometimes you’ll need to stop for a portable meal if you’re on a family trip. However, limiting snacks to things that are dry–think crackers over gummy treats that can melt, for example–and liquids to those that are clear can greatly limit the amount of a mess that can be made.
Now that you know how to keep your car clean when your kids are bound and determined to make a mess, we hope you’ll visit Avondale Nissan to find the best family vehicle for you. Might we suggest the 2015 Nissan Rogue or the 2015 Nissan Quest, for example?
