The summer months are sneaking up on us pretty quickly in the Phoenix area, and the upcoming Memorial Day holiday is evidence of this fact. Memorial Day is a yearly celebration of the men and women who have lost their lives in the defense of our country, and there is always a good mix of solemn remembrances and bring-on-the-summer parties as well. If you’re a motorcycle rider in the Phoenix area, then it would be a shame to miss this event. Using the moniker “Flags for Our Fallen,” the Memorial Day ride will features more than 200 of the area’s most patriotic riders, meeting on Cave Creek Road before going into the national cemetery for the official state-sponsored event.
To remember the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our country, the World War II Memorial near Litchfield Elementary School will host a short program on Monday morning. The event is free and open to the public, including a speech from the mayor of Litchfield Park, a patriotic music ceremony, a prayer and a moment of silence.
Okay, so this event isn’t quite like the others. However, that doesn’t mean that it should be overlooked. This year’s event features appearances from such legends as Lord of the Rings’ Sean Astin, The Six Million Dollar Man Lee Majors, and an session with Candyman himself, Tony Todd. For the nerds among us, this is the best opportunity to geek out for the entire summer.
Sometimes, you just want to kick your feet up and let the holiday come to you. This is one such event, where Scottsdale’s preeminent luxury resort allows users to enjoy live music, poolside DJs, Brunch and Bloody Mary Bars, and all sorts of spa deals. For those of us who are looking for stress release from our Memorial Day, this one might be the winner.
