Oil Change Phoenix AZ
How often have you woken up on a Saturday morning, thought to yourself, “Man, I have no plans today,” and then just instinctively grabbed your golf clubs? Too often, we frequently overlook what should be a more pressing mental matter: getting an oil change. It takes almost no time at all, it’s relatively inexpensive, and yet, we regularly neglect this vital automotive responsibility. So how do you know when it’s time for an oil change, apart from just checking your sticker from your last service? Here are a few tips, from your friends at Avondale Nissan!
Look at your dipstick. Thanks a bunch, Captain Obvious! But honestly, the best way to know if you’re in need of some new fluids is to go directly to the source. If your oil level is on the lower end of the oil-level indicator, it’s time to make a change, pronto. A low oil level indicates that debris and contaminants have made their way into the oil, causing your engine to burn through it more quickly.
Check the consistency of your oil. When you first add new oil to your engine, it has roughly the same color as a Bud Light. (Different taste, however.) After a few weeks, it will turn black, which is standard. After a few months, however, small particles will begin to interrupt the oil’s common consistency, which means that your oil is becoming contaminated from long-term use. This diminishes your oil’s viscosity, which is industry slang for “Your oil isn’t doing what oil is intended to do. Change it, silly.”
Pay attention to your car’s inner-workings. Like all faithful friends, your vehicle will let you know when something is amiss. It might be running louder than usual, which could be the result of the decreased lubrication from the oil. It also might run rougher than is ordinary, and you might notice a stronger odor of exhaust. All of these symptoms are consistent with a vehicle that is burning old or contaminated oil.
