Nissan Heisman House 2014

It’s back, baby. After a few months away, football season is now underway, to the delight of all of us at Avondale Nissan. (Also…nice work this weekend, Arizona and ASU. Absolute domination in both cases.) And, with anticipation for football reaching a fever pitch, Nissan has released its Heisman House commercials for the 2014 season. So, much like our look at last year’s crop, let’s check in and see how they look, shall we?

Our Favorite: “Roommates”

This one has a lot going for it right off the bat: Johnny Freaking Football proving that his skills don’t translate well to live scripted performances, a very stern-looking Roger Staubach filling the requisite “Get-offa-my-lawn” role, and a pretty clear indication that this living arrangement is not going to end well. You can’t tame Johnny; resistance is futile.

The Runner-Up: “Backyard Football”

If these ads follow any sort of overarching storyline–and we’d argue that they do–one theme is that Charles Woodson is not a man to be trifled with. Here, we see that this even applies to “two-hand touch” pickup games, as Chuck absolutely destroys elderly men as soon as he would an opposing NFLer. Bonus points for the inclusion of “Playing with the Boys” by Kenny Loggins, although the song has notably been used better elsewhere.

The Second Runner-Up: “Trademarked”

If all we had to take away from this ad was the use of the iconic People’s Court theme song, it would already be on the short list of favorites. However, two elements truly tip the scales in its favor. One, the inclusion of Ricky Williams, one of the most exciting and polarizing running backs of all time, is featured as a yoga instructor. And two, RGIII mocks his reputation as a humorless and oversensitive person to great comedic effect. We think he’s joking, at least.
