Nissan LEAF drivers certainly are an exciting bunch, aren’t they? One week they’re turning a LEAF into a pickup, the next they’re setting Guinness Book World Records. That was the case last week during National Drive Electric Week, where EV drivers from around the world got together to extoll the virtues of helping the environment by going electric. In the process, they set a world record for the largest number of electric vehicles driving in a parade, with 507. And of that enormous number, we are happy to say, most involved were Nissan LEAFs.
According to Toby Perry, national director of marketing for Nissan’s electric vehicles, he wasn’t particularly surprised that the LEAF took such a leadership role in the event. “We are currently at around 61,000 sales in the United States since the launch of LEAF four years ago,” he explained. “It is number one in the market (and) number one in the world. It is a natural fit for an opportunity like this to come out and be at this event and set a Guinness World Record for largest number of electric vehicles in a parade at any given time.”
With separate events taking place nationwide from Vermont to Hawaii (as well as events abroad as well), the is the fourth such celebration that’s taken place since its inception in 2011. Its basic mission was simple: to show the fun and easy lifestyle that comes with driving a Nissan LEAF. And this certainly isn’t lost on us at Avondale Nissan, operating out of one of the top ten LEAF markets in the nation.
