The Smart Rearview Mirror offers drivers the option to toggle between two visibility options. First, it acts as a standard mirror–Duh.–situated in the center of the windshield as it typically does. However, drivers also have the option of activating a rearview camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle, at which time the Smart Rearview Mirror acts as a monitor transmitting the images received in real time from the camera.
The waves this technology is making throughout the auto industry can’t be overstated. Using the Smart Rearview Mirror, drivers will be able to maintain clear visibility during inclimate weather and during night driving, and also helps to eliminate the glare that commonly obstructs visibility as a result of the headlights of other drivers. It additionally offers better visibility at dawn and dusk than is available from standard mirrors, greatly improving driver safety.
The Nissan Smart Rearview Mirror is currently expected to be released to Japanese drivers this spring, with stateside Nissan models adding the technology in the near future.
