With summer here, there are two travel-related things that you’d have to be blind to avoid noticing. First, more of us are heading onto the highways and byways for vacations than we were even just a week ago. And second, the gas prices aren’t fun to look at. So what does this mean for John and Jane Q. Consumer? It means that we need to figure out how to save fuel! Here are a few summer fuel-saving tips from your friends at Avondale Nissan!
Find a ride buddy. Are you a commuter? As you well know, Phoenix has one of the highest commuter populations in the country. However, many of us are slow to use ride-share programs or carpools for one reason or another. These help to cut the amount that you pay for gas, and put that money right back in your pocket where it belongs.
Eliminate unnecessary loads. When we go on vacations, many of us use the bulky external storage bins that go on our roof racks. These, on a surface level, aren’t anything to complain about. However, once vacation is over, the bin often stays atop our car. Why? It adds wind resistance and weight to your car that makes for poor fuel efficiency.
Use regular fuel. You might remember us mentioning this recently, but let’s reiterate: unless your car specifically calls for premium fuel, regular fuel will do just fine. That extra 30 cents per gallon (at the very least) that you’re paying for premium fuel can go right back in your pocket, or toward the entrance fee for your favorite waterpark.
Drop your speed. Do you feel the need, the need for speed? Well that need is making you pay more for fuel as well. Did you know that cutting your speed from just 75 to 65 mph can boost your fuel efficiency by as much as 13%. That translates to, like, a lot more money for you! And money is good!
We hope that these simple tips make your summer travel less stressful and more economical, and that you’ll come see us soon at Avondale Nissan!
