Football is Back, Here are Some Tailgating Tips!

Tailgating Tips

Tonight is the night. Tonight, we kick off the NFL football season, ending several months of anticipation (and, if you’re a Cards fan, frustration that a 10-6 team can miss the playoffs). This comes on the heels of the beginning of the college season, which just saw the beginning of what look to be promising seasons from both Arizona and Arizona State.

All of this football, as you might have guessed, is going to result in some serious tailgating. But what should you remember prior to gametime? Here are five tailgating tips, from your friends at Avondale Nissan!
Get there early. If you were watching the game on TV, sure, flip it there five minutes before kickoff. For live sports though, the pregame festivities are every bit as exciting as the game in many cases. So, be there no fewer than two hours early, or three if you really want to get the most out of the experience.
Do your prior due diligence. The wonderful thing about modern technology is that you can easily find a map of the grounds for virtually every major sporting venue around. Want proof? Bam! Now you have a parking map. And you’ll need it, so that you can more easily link up with your friends and anyone you might plan on directing to your tailgate site. It pays to save valuable minutes by knowing exactly where you need to go.
Look up any rules that might exist for the venue. Different venues have different rules that must be observed while tailgating, and while they may not be clearly posted (or even make much sense), you can be cited for breaking them all the same. For example, University of Phoenix Stadium doesn’t allow charcoal grills. Want proof? Bam! Now you have easy access to all the tailgating and parking guidelines for Cardinals games. You’re welcome.
Make a gameplan. Remember Dennis Green? One of the big knocks on him was that the guy never had a gameplan. (It made Coach Green equally perturbed.) So make a checklist of everything you’ll need for a great tailgate: disposable plates and tableware, coolers, food, games, etc. This will make things easier all through preparation, and when you’re at the grocery store beforehand.
Don’t be a jerk; Clean up after yourself. Many of the rules associated with tailgating would never have been made if not for people who turned their tailgating spot into a total disaster and left it that way. So take or throw out anything you brought in, and clean your spot thoroughly before leaving.
