Motion sickness is a tricky illness to treat and diagnose, mostly because it doesn’t respond to traditional remedies. It isn’t like a sore throat, where you can just take a few cough drops and call it a day. It affects different people in different ways, and that’s why it’s good to know how to conquer it.
First of all, what is motion sickness, really? Motion sickness is basically a result of competing signals that you’re getting from your body. When you’re riding in a car, your brain knows intellectually that you are moving. However, your body thinks you’re sitting still, and this creates a disparity between what your brain and body believe are happening. Boom, motion sickness.

How to Avoid Motion Sickness

Try to Ride in the Front Seat. The backseat passengers seem to have a higher likelihood of getting motion sickness, so try to sit shotgun if possible. Also, keep fresh air circulating through your vehicle, since fresh air is the enemy of illness.
Don’t Overeat. As you know, once your stomach starts feeling rumbly, everything in your stomach will start feeling unsettled. That’s why it’s best to avoid discomfort that stems from overeating, drinking alcohol, or consuming fatty foods.

Limit your Focus and Try to Stay Still. As we mentioned above, the spatial disparity between what your eyes see and what your stomach thinks it recognizes. That’s why it’s a good idea to try to keep your eyes inside the vehicle, since it will keep more in line with what your stomach is sensing.
Eat Ginger. For whatever reason, some people swear that eating ginger will settle your stomach, and there’s some reasonable logic behind it. Ginger has been a remedy for various ailments for centuries, so if you don’t have a natural aversion to ginger, it’s worth a shot.
