Why do tires go flat in cold weather?

The changing in the seasons makes for a beautiful landscape around the Valley of the Sun, which means that the coming fall weather is a perfect time for you to get out and enjoy all that the landscapes have to offer. However, cooler temperatures can also make for some challenges with your vehicle, as you might notice that your tires aren’t able to keep their air inside as long as they should. Why does this happen? We’ll show you today at Avondale Nissan!

Impact from cooler weather on car tires

Your tires are essential to the longevity and performance of your vehicle, which is why it’s imperative to keep them maintained at a good level throughout. Falling mercury levels can impact this, however, because as colder air outside gets denser, hotter air inside your tires can leak out because of the pressure. As a result, it’s not uncommon to wake up to a tire sitting at a lower level than it was at the night before.

Optimal tire pressure of Nissan vehicles

Luckily, most new Nissan models today are outfitted with what’s known as a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This technology uses sensors inside your vehicle to detect when your vehicle is running lower than it usually would. This, in turn, helps you get a greater understanding of where you should be at on the road!

Optimal tire pressure of Nissan vehicles

To keep your Nissan model running at peak performance, you should aim for a cold tire pressure between 30 and 35 pounds per square inch, or psi, for the majority of Nissan sedans and crossovers. This way, you’ll see your ride become smoother and your control of the terrain or conditions ahead be much easier to handle!
