Could our highways eventually look like something out of the game of Tron? If one Dutch partnership has its way, this could very possibly be a reality. It’s called the “Smart Highway,” and it’s become something of a curiosity in automotive circles since it won Best Future Concept at the recent Dutch Design Awards.
To people who grew up in this generation, the name “Nissan” generally evokes words like “reliable,” “efficient,” and “stylish.” For those of my father’s generation, however, the conversation begins and ends with “Z-Car.” For forty-five years, the Nissan Z-Series has occupied rare air in the sports car community, enough to warrant the honor of being the best-selling series of sports cars of all time. We’re already reaching the point in the year where we begin seeing early examples of the 2015 Nissan models, and we gotta say, it’s cause for excitement around Avondale Nissan. Obviously, we remember that only last month we caught a first glimpse of the 2015 Nissan Murano, the long-awaited redesign of Nissan’s stalwart crossover SUV. And, we figured, why not keep this party going? We’ve also just seen the first details regarding the 2015 Nissan Versa Sedan redesign, which is set to be released at our Phoenix-area dealership later this year.
I don’t know about all of you, but I’m ready for a road trip. Maybe to the west coast, or to Colorado. Or Vegas! Let’s do Vegas. Much like the many school-age children who can’t sit still during class to the unending consternation of their poor teachers, I’m feeling that similar itch. And, when I get that itch, every vehicle I see is analyzed as a possible vacation vehicle. Which, naturally, brings us to the 2014 Nissan Quest near Phoenix AZ.
The continued development of forward-thinking safety features has long been an area of incredible innovation at Nissan, and this is never more evident than with the recently announced Nissan Smart Rearview Mirror. Although it isn’t yet available in vehicles at Avondale Nissan, the Smart Rearview Mirror has already received recognition from the World Traffic Safety Symposium, who awarded Nissan with the 2014 Traffic Safety Achievement Award.
This is the sort of news that will sit eternally in my totally-real “Stop-the-Presses” folder, right next to the story of the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan episode and the fact that my parents attended–and enjoyed!–Book of Mormon. For the record, “Stop-the-Presses” news has to have a certain unbelievability about it, making a person immediately verify its veracity. And yes, this is just such a tidbit. That is because, according to various news sources, we at Avondale Nissan have received word that Nissan has created the world’s first “self-cleaning car.” Let that sink in.
